Why do dogs shed their fur?
Your dog sheds its coat twice a year. Dog hair everywhere! However, shedding is a natural process: Your dog adapts to the season and compensates for the seasonal temperatures.
In autumn, the undercoat thickens to keep your dog warm in cold temperatures. The topcoat sheds less. The undercoat regulates heat, while the topcoat repels dirt and regulates moisture.
In spring, the winter coat gives way to the summer coat. The undercoat thins out, and the top coat becomes thicker. During this time, you'll find fine, fluffy hair everywhere: in the home, on clothing, and other surfaces.
Dog grooming
Your dog's coat has a self-grooming function. Human hair care products don't belong on your dog's skin or coat. There are special shampoos for dogs, but these are usually unnecessary.
The pH value of the coat is adapted to natural conditions. The coat cleans itself of dirt and dust. If it's heavily soiled, you can wash or shower your dog with a mild dog shampoo containing natural ingredients.
If you notice minor wounds or scabs while grooming, keep an eye on them. Small injuries can develop into infections.
Dog grooming and wound care
For grooming, you usually only need a good brush, grooming scissors, and possibly a trimmer (depending on the breed and coat type). With the brush, you can support your dog during the shedding process and remove loose hair and undercoat year-round. Grooming scissors or a trimmer help with matting.
